For everyone at Nordic

Let's take the Nordic magic on the road.

Every year, Nordic gives us something rare: a few days where strangers become family and every dance feels a little magical. This trip is about carrying that feeling beyond the festival weekend.

Same people, same warmth, out among Norway's fjords. Seven days of dancing, driving and belonging, for everyone who calls Nordic home.

  • The festival feeling, extended
  • Family, not tourists
  • A social every day

Practical · The car

Renting the car

The budget below is based on a compact EV split four ways, picked up in Oslo. These are the companies to look at. Book early: August is peak season.

Hyre

Rent by the hour or the day in an app. Your phone is the key.

  • Electric cars such as the Renault 5 (from 799 NOK a day) and Toyota bZ4X (from 969 NOK a day)
  • 150 km a day included, then 3 NOK per km
  • From age 18, with a surcharge under 23
  • Licences from most countries, though some need an International Driving Permit. You also need a passport or similar ID, and Hyre runs a credit check

Getaround

Rent a car from a local owner, across Norway. The site is in Norwegian.

  • 200 km a day included
  • Free cancellation up to 48 hours before you start
  • From age 20 (25 for Premium, 30 for Premium Plus), with a young-driver fee up to age 26
  • Show your original licence to the owner. A foreign licence may need extra documents

Sixt

A rental desk at Oslo Airport or downtown, with a range of electric cars.

  • From age 19, older for some car types, and a young-driver fee may apply
  • Bring a full licence and a passport or ID card

Europcar, Hertz and Avis

Three more big companies in Norway. Search for Oslo and ask about electric cars.

  • Check how many kilometres are included
  • Some licences need an official translation or an international licence, so ask when you book

Before you book

  • Licence. From outside the EU/EEA? Read Statens vegvesen's rules and ask the company if you need an International Driving Permit.
  • Kilometres. The full loop is about 1,300 km. Check what's included and what extra kilometres cost.
  • Range. Day 7 is ~348 km and Geiranger has few chargers, so choose a car with range to spare.
  • Room. Four people with bags and tents fill a compact car. Check the boot size.
  • Dates. Pick up in Oslo before 13:00 on Tuesday 3 August. Return on Monday 9 August, or Sunday 8 August if you take the shorter way.
  • Tolls and ferries. Ask how the company bills them. AutoPASS handles both in Norway.

Prices and rules as shown by each company in November 2026. They can change, so check on the day you book.

Practical · Charging

Charging along the loop

Most stops have AC charging at campsites and hotels, with fast chargers in the larger towns. A fast charger takes most EVs to about 80% in 20–60 minutes: pair it with a meal or a coffee.

  • Fagernes / Valdres

    Strong

Several fast chargers and AC points at shopping centres and petrol stations.

  • Flåm

    Good

Public chargers in and near the village centre. Top up when you check in.

  • Loen / Stryn

    Good

AC at campsites and hotels; fast chargers nearby in Stryn.

  • Geiranger

    Limited

More limited: rely on campsite or hotel AC, and arrive with some margin.

  • Åndalsnes

    Strong

Excellent coverage: Mer fast chargers, a Tesla Supercharger and more.

  • Lom

    Good

AC at campsites and hotels plus regional points. Charge full before Oslo.

Plan the long leg. Lom → Oslo (~348 km) is the longest stretch. Leave Lom at 100% and plan one fast-charge stop along the E6.

The rhythm of the trip. The middle days are short drives, so one AC charge overnight usually covers the next leg.

Going home Sunday? Åndalsnes → Oslo is ~440 km. Plan one or two fast-charge stops, at Dombås or Lillehammer.

Practical · Extras

Good to know

A few costs and tips that sit outside the daily plan.

Activities

The Loen Skylift, fjord cruises (Geiranger, Nærøyfjord / Flåm) and the Flåm Railway cost roughly €40–70 per person each. Pick one or two highlights rather than all of them.

Tolls and ferries

Parking, road tolls and two ferries (Fodnes–Mannheller on Day 3, Eidsdal–Linge on Day 5) add up to roughly tens of euros per car for the whole route. A car registered with AutoPASS is billed automatically.

Gear and weather

Bring layers and a rain shell: fjord weather turns fast, even in summer. No tent? A basic one is ~€60, a solid 3-person ~€140–180.

Book ahead

Campsites and cabins in Flåm, Geiranger and Loen fill up in peak summer. Reserve the popular nights early; Fagernes and Lom are quieter and more flexible. Each day above lists who to call.

Weather and closures. The route and activities are subject to weather and final confirmation. Trollstigen is usually open from mid-May to October or November and can close at short notice in heavy rain, so check vegvesen.no/trafikk before you drive.

Practical · Contacts

Who to contact

Each day above has its own places to stay and local contacts. These are for the whole trip.

Breakdown

Call your rental company first. Viking and NAF are Norway's roadside assistance services.

Ferries

Fodnes–Mannheller on Day 3 takes about 15 min and Eidsdal–Linge on Day 5 about 13 min. Each costs about 70 NOK for a car (2025–26 prices).
