FAQ

Your Questions, Answered

What is Nordic — Social Stars?

A social bachata and zouk festival in Oslo, Norway, running 4–8 June 2026 at Sentralen. International teaching artists, 10+ socials across multiple rooms, and a Jack & Jill competition with a €1,000 cash prize to the winning couple plus an automatic qualifying slot for the Bachata Social World Cup in Geneva.

When and where is Nordic — Social Stars 2026?

4–8 June 2026 at Sentralen, Øvre Slottsgate 3, 0157 Oslo, Norway. Sentralen is a historic culture house in the heart of Oslo, two minutes from Karl Johan and five from Oslo Central Station. Workshops and socials span six rooms across the venue. Thursday June 4 is an arrival day; the program kicks off Friday with an open-air social at the Opera House.

What ticket passes are available?

Three tiers: Nordic pass (€155, full access to bachata + zouk workshops and parties), Bachata pass (€135, bachata only), and Zouk pass (€135, zouk only). The Nordic and Bachata passes for 2026 are sold out; Zouk is still available via Nordic Zouk Festival's ticket page.

How does the Jack & Jill competition work?

Saturday 6 June. 50 couples enter, only 5 reach the final. Four rounds (technique, connection, musicality, performance) with 6 songs per round. Prize: €1,000 cash prize to the winning couple plus an automatic qualifying slot for the Bachata Social World Cup 2026 in Geneva.

Do I need a festival pass to compete in the Jack & Jill?

No — the Jack & Jill is not included in any festival pass. It's a separate registration on the official Bachata Social World Cup portal (bachatasocialworldcup.com), open to everyone whether or not you hold a festival pass. Sign up there to take part.

Who is teaching at Nordic — Social Stars 2026?

13 bachata teaching artists: Eva & Owen (UK), Leandro & Jomante (Spain/Lithuania), Elwin & Gaby (Spain), Sorush & Elise (Sweden/Estonia), Iban & Julia (Spain/Poland), Tiago & Chloi (Portugal/Greece), Jeremy & Gabby (Australia/Sweden, the 2025 J&J champions), Benjamin & Sara (Denmark/Portugal), Miguel & Sophia (Estonia/Ukraine), Imad & Monika (Denmark/Poland), Evgeniy & Eva Marie (Norway), Tiia (Finland), and Jaden & Laura (Netherlands). The co-located Nordic Zouk Festival brings 5 additional zouk artists.

How do I travel to Oslo for the festival?

Fly into Oslo Gardermoen (OSL) — 20 minutes by train into the city. Budget travellers can use Sandefjord Torp (Ryanair, Wizz). Direct trains from Gothenburg and Stockholm connect to Oslo Central, a 5-minute walk to Sentralen.

Where should I stay?

Central Oslo. The city is compact — most central neighbourhoods are 5–20 minutes from Sentralen on foot or by tram. Try Airbnb or Booking.com. Got questions? Reach us on WhatsApp, Instagram (@nordicbachata), or by email.

What is the code of conduct?

Applies to every participant — attendees, artists, DJs, volunteers, staff, and partners. It is displayed at the venue, emailed to ticket holders before the event, and publicly shared with all artists and staff. Connection over competition. Vibe over ego. Always.

How many guest dancers attend?

Roughly 30% of attendees are guest dancers — invited social dancers from across Europe and beyond. The ratio is intentional: it raises the social-floor quality without diluting the local community vibe.

What language is the festival in?

English. Workshops, announcements, MC, and all event communications run in English by default.

Is there a zouk festival in Oslo?

Yes — Nordic Zouk Festival runs co-located with Nordic — Social Stars at the same venue (Sentralen, Oslo) on the same dates (4–8 June 2026). Five international zouk artists teach workshops Friday through Sunday, and zouk music plays in a dedicated room every night. The Zouk pass (€135) is available separately through the Nordic Zouk Festival ticket page.

What zouk workshops are available at the festival?

8+ zouk workshops across Friday, Saturday, and Sunday at Sentralen, Oslo. Artists include Bruna & Filippe (Brazil), Jade & Pedro (Brazil), Kristin (Norway), and Hilde & Silje (Norway). Topics range from fundamentals and head movements to counterbalance, flow, and dynamic combinations — suitable for improvers through advanced dancers.
